Brighton Farm - 2003 to Present

The Farm is a networking group for freelancers in the new media industry - i.e. designers, developers, hosts, copywriters, and related workers.

The group started in February 2003, triggered by an e-mail to the Brighton New Media mailing list. I took over organising the group in the summer of 2003 when it looked like the group would stop meeting.

Since then we've been meeting every Wednesday evening in a pub in Brighton or Hove, with short breaks over Christmases. We have a private mailing list with about 65 freelancers on it, and have met many more people at the meetings. Our busiest meeting had about nineteen attendees, we normally average about twelve each week.

Mainly I concentrate on advertising the group, getting to know members, trying to get them to fill out profiles for the Farm's website, linking people up who need each other's skills and putting potential clients in touch with freelancers who might be able to help.
